Creating a website requires the following three things:
- A Name (e.g. www.yourdomain.com);
- Hosting (space to put your website on)
- A Website
1. A Name
Your domain name should indicate the image you wish to reflect as much as possible. In my case, we make web design easy, providing you with an effective website solution at low costs. My website name www.webdesignmadesimple.co.uk reflects this.
The name you choose for your site should reflect your target market. The website www.studentatlaw.co.uk is primarily for English students. The ‘.co.uk’ domain reflects this.
2. Hosting
Web hosting prices can start from as little as £40 per annum.
Please be aware that different hosting plans provide different services. For more complex websites, a more advanced hosting plan may be required. When designing your website, this is something you may wish to discuss.
Hosting plans determine how much traffic your site can hold (i.e. how many visitors) and how much space your website will have. Cheaper hosting options may provide less space and hold fewer visitors.
3. A Website
Just as your domain name will indicate the image you wish to reflect, so should the website itself. This can be seen in James’ Levy’s website. The simple format is easy to read both for children, and their parents. Meaning his target market is likely to read through the services he offers. The green colour scheme reflects the service James provides (tennis coaching). A mixture of action pictures and static pictures have been chosen for the site, reflecting the different aspects of coaching, calm, yet engaging.
What Next…
Once your website is built and ready to go, you may wish to publicise it.
Once possible first stage, would be to submit your site to the relevant search engines. For only £25 we can submit your site to 100 search engines.
You might also consider adding the site to any business cards and stationary which you have.
